It turned out the deer tick was in fact, not infected with 'lyme disease', but I was certainly up for being safe rather than sorry. The key is knowing what to look for. Typically if you are bitten by a tick that carries the 'lyme disease virus', a rash will appear around the spot where you were bitten. This rash can spread, from between 5'' to 8'' inches out.
